Level One Accent Reduction – Term A
Students will focus on developing competency in using standard American English pronunciation.

GOALS
1.   Understand and use rising and falling English intonation
2.   Understand and use English rhythm
3.   Understand and use common English word stress patterns
4.   Understand and use English consonants
5.   Understand and use English vowels

OBJECTIVES
1.   Produce and identify meaning change through intonation
2.   Understand and use English rhythm by distinguishing between function and content words
3.   Use reductions, linking and contractions
4.   Recognize and use primary stress, secondary stress and no stress in multi-syllabic words
5.   Use all phonemes of standard American English with a moderate degree of accuracy in both formal and informal situations using IPA

3.   Understand and use common English word stress patterns
4.   Understand and use English consonants
5.   Understand and use English vowels

4.   Recognize stress patterns for words of different lexical categories
5.   Use all phonemes of standard American English with a moderate degree of accuracy in both formal and informal situations using IPA
